Newsletter 21 December 2017

Greetings Mirthful Montessori Families,

It was nice to see so many of you today for our US History presentations.  All the students’ work came full circle as they presented to you today, so thank you.  I hope you learned a few things, I know I did as the research was happening.  The students expressed their joy of this ‘project based’ approach, so I hope to bring them (and you) more in the months to come.

This week has been filled with assessments and finalizing our big works of 2017.  We took STAR Math & Reading, as well as a Spelling Assessment.  I’ll get to look over all this information (or data, if you prefer) over break and hope to form some more groups to help students where gaps might be showing.  I was joyful that they all took the assessments serious, but didn’t appear too stressed.

We also are finishing our family research papers.  The students have learned about paragraph formation, transitions, editing, informational writing, and how to move through the entire writing process.  For some this has been a joy, for others not some much.  I believe it has been a valuable experience for everyone.  Many students have taken the assignment to next levels and learned about family members in new lights or even for the first time.  The final drafts are on most of their student accounts, so I hope they share them with you.

Finally,  please remember that our 5th grade ski trip is 3 January, which is the Wednesday that we return from break.

Thanks for reading.  As always, if you have any questions please let me know.

Happy Holidays,

Tony
